Empowering Communities with sustainable projects

Engineers Without Borders - USA, Cal Poly is a student-led non-profit organization that supports community-driven development programs worldwide through the design and implementation of sustainable engineering projects, while creating multidisciplinary and leadership experiences for students. With four international project teams, Fiji, Kenya, Nicaragua, and Local Projects, we work to address issues such as water, education, food security, sanitation, and energy by collaborating with our partnered communities. Focusing on cultivating a community of globally-minded students from all majors within our club, we harness cross-disciplinary perspectives to design holistic solutions that fit the needs of our communities.

Formed in 2005, our chapter at Cal Poly has grown into one of the largest student chapters in the country. EWB-USA Cal Poly has a history of excellence, receiving the title of EWB-USA’s West Coast Regional Premier Student Chapter for six consecutive years. Our members often lead presentations and panel discussions at EWB-USA Regional and National Conferences, sharing perspectives on our successes and failures through our work across the globe. We pride ourselves in engaging our members in the global science-policy making process. Through our chapter’s participation with the United Nations, as part of the Major Group for Children and Youth at the Forum for Science, Technology, and Innovation for Sustainable Development Goals, we collaborate with policy makers, professionals, and students from across the world to discuss and examine relevant technology to facilitate sustainable development.
