EWB-USA Cal Poly Goals

While EWB-USA Cal Poly does abide by the mission of EWB-USA, students in our organization have created a more detailed list of priorities they want to reach along with the concrete goals they need to achieve to accomplish each one.

  1. Practice a community-first model of development.

    • Provide technical and financial assistance to support community-driven infrastructure projects.

    • Positively impact partnered communities and critically measure success as defined by the community.

    • Foster meaningful relationships with partnered communities.

    • Encourage transparency in impacts, successes, and failures.

    • Identify and recognize inequities, power imbalances, and challenges inherent to student-led development work.

  2. Develop a community of globally-minded students and professionals.

    • Encourage ongoing critical self-evaluation in all projects.

    • Provide social and technical education opportunities through workshops, seminars, panels, and conferences.

    • Foster an environment of collaboration with clients, professionals, and students of diverse disciplines and backgrounds on local and international scales.

    • Address complex real-world problems, such as environmental sustainability and climate change, as well as its impact on marginalized communities.

    • Encourage the development of an ethos of individual social responsibility in every student through meaningful projects and partnerships, as well as civic action.

  3. Challenge norms in higher education and STEM.

    • Facilitate interactive, interdisciplinary, and hands-on project work at Cal Poly.

    • Seek inclusion of students outside of STEM disciplines to encourage holistic, multi-faceted development work

  4. Enrich the club culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    • Create an aligned and cohesive focus on diversity and inclusion.

    • Sustain a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive club community that reflects and serves the diverse people involved in our projects.

    • Create equal opportunities for travel by providing financial support to those in need.

    • Recognize and encourage important student contributions to project work domestically, as international travel is not accessible to all.
